Rebekah turned 1 yesterday. It was a chill day with just the three of us. Her party is this afternoon.
She opened a couple gifts from family. The giraffe was an instant hit. Many thanks to Aunt Karen and Grandma & Grandpa Dussault for the gifts. She also was a fan of the bunny book, she is a lot more interested in books these days than she used to be. Hopefully, she won’t loose that interest as she grows like her mommy did.
I LOVE this expression. She’s got a lot of new ones. Who do you think she gets this one from?
Later we went to the beach. She wasn’t a big fan. She hasn’t been there much since Scott & I aren’t big beach people. She was also really tired.
Another new thing is to stick out her tongue as she whines.
Next Saturday is Rebekah’s first birthday! She is growing quite nicely. Recently there have been a lot of changes. We switched her to a new day care, which was a hard transition but it was worth it. She was in the peak of her stranger anxiety phase so there was lots of crying. It took her about 3 weeks to accept her new school, but now she loves it now.
She is babbling a lot. Mama, dada, baba, nana. Not saying any definite words yet. Her ear infections had us worried that her speech development might be behind but she seems ok. Her ears have been looking better this month so we’re hoping the doctors will decide she’s not a candidate for tubes.
One bummer though, she was diagnosed with RAD - Reactive Airway Disease. It is like asthma from what I understand so far. I haven’t researched it yet so I’m not totally in the know but will be soon. We have to give her 20 minute long breathing treatments twice a day when she’s sick and for about 10 to 15 days after the cold is gone because she gets a lingering wheezy cough. This explains why she gets bad coughing fits when she cries, even when she isn’t sick.
NOW for the good news! She is at a fabulous stage. About 2 or 3 weeks ago she took her first steps while holding my hands. Then a week ago she started taking steps on her own without any assistance. I took video, you can watch it at www.sarahpixx.com/bekawalk.mp4.
She’s eating lots of new things and is extremely picky like me. She’ll eat any cheese product, but throws broccoli. Getting her to eat fruit can be tricky. If I cut it up into bits she won’t eat it, but if she can it whole she’ll take it.
Her hair is so long we actually have to use a barrette. I plan to let it grow out.
She’s getting into everything…including this Ikea furniture…
She’s becoming a daddy’s girl, demanding lots of attention.
Was a busy day for Rebekah. We started off at Scott’s 9 am softball game.
Rebekah gets some lovin from Angie while she was on deck.
There are always lots of cool baby friends to hang with.
There’s no crying in softball…
Then we stopped back home to make mango salsa for a Mothers & Fathers Day party.
Um..excuse me, that’s my toy.
Our friend Robbie.
Chubby fingers.
Could you get this drool off my face?
Last week we took a trip to the Palm Beach Zoo. We figured she was old enough to enjoy it, but she didn’t have as good of a time as we had hoped. I’m guessing she’d say it was just ok. Keep in mind it was a hot day and she was at the beginning of an ear infection, we just didn’t know it yet. Speaking of which, this is her fourth ear infection in four months. She also just had four top teeth come in, so it’s been a painful couple months for her. She is better now though so that is good.
Rebekah started crawling a couple weeks ago. She had been trying so hard for such a long time that when she finally did it I felt so proud of her. She’s having a great time. At day care she enjoys being able to follow her friends around the room and snatch their toys away from them. She’s a very social baby, she’s always talking more to them then they are to her. She can say dadadada, bababa, nin nin nin and such. No “mama” yet.
With her new skill comes an even bigger appetite. She is up to 3 solid food meals a day, a snack and her regular breast milk feedings. She eats cheerios, scrambled eggs, whole peas, and anything soft and mushy from our plates at the dinner table. She can even drink water from a cup, although she does dribble some down her shirt if you aren’t careful. The process is very slow and we still hold the cup for her. She loves it.
We often meet up with our mommy/baby friends (Robby & Rylee) for play dates at the park. She gets pretty bored at the house with Scott and I at this point so these play dates are very important.
On Sundays Daddy plays softball in the Sun Sentinel league and we watch from the stands with more mommy/baby friends - Belinda & Kayden.
Rebekah is developing her pincer grasp right now. The most amusing thing she has tried to grasp - my freckles. She hasn’t learned that they don’t come off. Since she can’t grasp them, she tries to scratch them off. Unfortunately, I don’t have pictures of that, but I do have some of her using her new skill to eat whole peas for the first time.
The other night I went to check on Rebekah and found her in this awkward position. Notice her other arm is tucked under her. I can’t see how this is comfortable. Now that she has more control over her body she thrashes around a lot in her sleep. She likes to extend her arm and grab things like this when she is nursing too.
WOW! I am LONG overdue for a blog entry. Sorry everyone.
Rebekah is 8 months old now. She continues to be lots of fun and a very happy baby. She is pretty mellow and we get lots of comments about how good she is when we’re in public. Here are a few pics from January and February.
This is one of my favorite photos of Bek and I’m proud to say it was taken by Scott. His photography is getting better and better!
Of Course, he does have beautiful subject matter.
It’s actually been cold enough for Bek to wear a beanie and for us to turn on the heater. This winter has been very nice, the best one we’ve had since we’ve moved here.
Chillin with daddy on the couch.
Going for Daddy’s eyebrows. Fun fun.
DOH!
Trying peas for the first time.
