Home life

Now that we own a home there is plenty to do. Scott has a home improvement project to do every weekend and has been busy unpacking most nights since we moved in.

So far we’ve been working mainly on the common living areas. The living room and kitchen are put together. The baby’s room is really just boxes at the moment. No worries though, Amy has lent us a co-sleeper crib to use in our room the first 3 months so we have time to get the crib.

While Scott’s been putting in many hours of manual labor I’ve been stuffing my face with chocolate cake.  In between feedings I’ve been helping where I can with the house. I actually caulked the baseboards in the bedroom but it killed my back so I just had to stop being so ambitious. At this point typical third trimester woes are keeping me from doing too much -  swollen legs and feet, exhaustion, back ache, crankiness. Lots of fun to be around I’m sure!

A month ago we moved into the new house. I gathered as many strapping, young men as I could to help. The boys decided using the front door just wasn’t good enough. Above: Scott lowers our kitchen table from the balcony of our second floor apartment to Jeff, left, and Omar, right.

Despite the heat Karsten, center, breaks out a smile while moving the desk with Omar, left. Throughout this whole process we’ve gotten a lot of help from friends. A big thanks to Rolando, Emilio, Omar, Karsten, Belinda, Jeff, Bob, Joe & Amy. The move went so much quicker, we couldn’t have done it without them. It’s been a great blessing.

We’re homeowners!!!

It finally happened!! We bought a home today. We got a call Tuesday morning that the utility easement issue had been taken care of. We had been waiting for so long for anything to happen it was kind of crazy how quickly it all went down over the past 48 hours. Honestly, I didn’t think it was going to happen at all.

We’ve got a lot ahead of us now. Over the next two weeks we’ll be very busy with cleaning, packing, moving, etc. Actually, most of that work will be on Scott’s shoulders since I can’t lift anything heavy anymore. Thankfully several friends have volunteered to help. With only 7 weeks until Baby Duso arrives I am really happy that I have a place to put her crib.

…still waiting…

We still don’t have a closing date on the house. Our lawyer is working to get the utility companies to sign “no disturbance” contracts. We don’t really know how long it will take for the companies to respond, but we’ve been warned it will be a couple weeks. So we’re still in limbo, living among boxes.

Closing postponed

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Well the housing story has hit another snag. We were scheduled to close tomorrow, but it has been delayed. This house was built in the middle of two small lots. This is great cause we’ve got one of the biggest lots in the neighborhood, which will be great when we sell someday. However, there is a 5 ft utility easement on the side and rear of every lot. This means the utility easement runs right down the middle of the home. We’ll see how it goes!

House Madness

Scott and I have been house hunting since mid January. We’ve been through many ups and downs through this process. It’s been a crazy time to do this while working and preparing for a child.  After looking at more than 50 houses in person and 100s online we are actually close to closing on one of them next week. We both can’t wait to have it over with. So if all goes well hopefully we’ll move in the second week of May. Then I’ll finally be able to buy baby stuff since I currently have no where to put anything in our one bedroom apartment.
